The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp. (EDC) is launching a Sault Community Entrepreneur Network Exchange (SCENE), an initiative developed to support the local small business sector.
The SCENE will give the Sault business community the opportunity to gather, discuss opportunities, learn from one another and find strength in numbers.
“With support structure, the survival rate of small businesses can increase significantly,” said Terri Chiarello, small business advisor with Business Sault Ste. Marie, in a news release. “The SCENE offers entrepreneurs a practical forum to build on their business skills, knowledge and experience.”
The SCENE will support small business owners through an online information-based system and informal gatherings. Its mission is to increase entrepreneurial education, reduce social and economic barriers in business startup and provide information on business support systems.
The City of Sault Ste. Marie has provided $10,000 in startup capital to get SCENE off the ground.
The SCENE was identified as a strategic priority project outlined in the EDC's 2012-2014 strategic plan.
