McDougall Energy Inc. of Sault Ste. Marie has been included on the list of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies for 2011.

The national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, and Queen’s School of Business.

“We would like to congratulate McDougall Energy Inc. and its entire workforce,” John Hughes, a partner with Private Company Services at Deloitte, said in a news release. “Achieving Canada’s highest level of Canadian business excellence takes a united effort and we are privileged to acknowledge such a strong team.”

In business for 66 years, McDougall is a Canadian, privately owned family business that markets and distributes heating oil, propane, diesel fuel, commercial lubricants and gasoline, as well as an Esso retailer. It serves Ontario and areas of British Columbia.

Established in 1993, Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies recognizes Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges, including new technologies, globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core competencies, designing information systems and hiring the right talent to facilitate growth.

“It is a great honour to be recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies,” McDougall president Darren McDougall said in the release. “We are grateful to our loyal customers, valued employees, critical partners and the family members who came before us. We share the award with them.”

McDougall will be honoured along with other winners during a March 27 gala event in Toronto.
