The Sault Ste. Marie Airport is receiving $592,472 from the federal government towards safety improvements.
Provided through Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), the funding will go towards airside electrical rehabilitation and increase energy efficiency at the airport.
“I am pleased to announced funding that will allow the Sault Ste. Marie Airport to make important safety improvements,” Sault MP Bryan Hayes said in a news release. “Safe and efficient airports are vital to the local economies of smaller communities and our government is taking action to support safe air service for passengers and businesses in this region.”
To be eligible for funding, an airport must show that upgrades are needed for safety measures and that the airport cannot self-finance the project.
The funding is part of a greater project to provide more than $23-million for 29 safety-related projects in 2012-2013.
