Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, located along the north shore of Lake Huron, has entered a joint venture agreement with Toronto-based Eclipsall Energy Group to develop solar energy projects.
The pair will develop and implement projects on the First Nation, while aiming to create long-term employment for community members through hands-on training in solar photovoltaic operations and technology.
Plans also include the development and implementation of solar projects in other First Nation communities.
“Our community has made a commitment to sustainable development and in particular to solar energy,” Sagamok Chief Paul Eshkakogan said in a news release. “We are pleased to make Eclipsall a trusted partner in our pursuit and realization of this objective.”
“Ontario has the largest concentration of First Nation communities in Canada,” Les Lyster, Eclipsall CEO, added. “It’s been our hope to work closely with Frist Nations communities and assist them in identifying and implementing their solar energy strategies. The agreement with Sagamok Anishnawbek is an important first step in that direction.”
