The Ontario government has rebuilt and re-opened its government building in Red Lake, Sept. 3, after a lightning strike and resulting fire burned down the offices in May 2006.
The new digs are built to LEED standards and features energy efficient reflective and recycled roofing, lighting with occupancy sensors and a new elevators for enhanced accessibility.
The retrofitted building was designed by Calnitsky and Associates Architects of Winnipeg and built by Manshield Construction of Thunder Bay.
“A fully functioning provincial building is vitally important for our municipality,” said Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet in a Sept. 3 Ontario Realty Corp. news release. “It provides our residents with the quality of service they had come to expect, and also offers us opportunities from an economic development perspective.”
