Largely due to the high price of gold, the Municipality of Red Lake is moving ahead expanding its commercial business area.
The town, population 4,500, is undertaking an engineering study to see if a southward expansion down Highway 105 is a viable option.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund contributed more than $31,000 for the study. In 2008, Red Lake began work on this project by developing a draft plan, site preparations, as well as water, sewer and drainage system drawings.
