Provincial cabinet shuffle shakes up top spots

The late-May departure of former economic development minister Michael Bryant from Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's cabinet has finally triggered a shuffling of responsibilities at the provincial level.

The late-May departure of former economic development minister Michael Bryant from Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's cabinet has finally triggered a shuffling of responsibilities at the provincial level.

Taking over Bryant's former job in a newly merged ministry is Sandra Pupatello, who assumes the mantle of Minister of Economic Development and Trade.  She will also be responsible for small business.

Overseeing the implementation of the province's single sales tax will be John Wilkinson, who steps into the shoes of the Minister of Revenue, taking over from Dwight Duncan.  The harmonized 13 per cent sales tax will come into effect July 1, 2010.

John Milloy, who currently serves as the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, adds another responsibility to his plate as he also becomes the minister of Research and Innovation.

Other swaps include Harinder Takhar, who will take over as Minister of Government Services, and Ted McMeekin, who becomes the Minister of Consumer Services.
Many familiar faces around the cabinet table, such as Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Rick Bartolucci and Energy and Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman, remain untouched.
