Ten businesses in the North will receive funds from the Northern Energy Program, an initiative of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC), to retrofit their energy systems with renewable energy technologies.
“Our investments through the NOHFC Northern Energy Program are helping northern businesses that are ready to embrace and adopt new energy opportunities,” said Rick Bartolucci, minister of northern development and mines and chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), in a news release. “These investments are leading to more stable, profitable job-creating enterprises, while laying the foundations for a cleaner, greener Northern Ontario.”
Projects include the M’Chigeeng McLean’s Mountain Wind Farm Project, which will receive funding for engineering costs related to two wind generation partnerships with the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin.
Thessalon Micro Generating Stations will receive funds to construct three hydro facilities at various locations on the Bridgeland River water system.
Lakeside Laundromat in Little Current on Manitoulin Island will receive funds to install a renewable energy water heating system.
Sundridge Verzijlenberg Veterinary Professional Corporation will receive money to install a geothermal heating and cooling system.
Harley Township Grant Farms will use its share to install a geothermal heating and cooling system into the equipment maintenance and storage facility.
Nakina Lower Twin Lakes Lodge will receive funding to install a solar power system, while Mine Centre Hyatt's Manion Lake Camp will install a geothermal heating and cooling system.
Lake of the Woods Turtle Bay Lodge will install solar energy panels, and Kenora Salisbury Cruises Limited will install a solar energy system on a floating lodge in Lake of the Woods.
Kenora Fish Hawk Freightways will use its funding to upgrade an existing solar panel system.
