The Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH) in Sudbury is the recipient of $1 million in funding from the province, which will go towards establishing a research chair.
The money comes in addition to $125,000 in funds already contributed by Vale.Â
Laurentian University, through which CROSH has been established, has agreed to contribute $500,000 over five years, and the school expects to raise an additional $125,000 through private and public sector partnerships.
With the installation of the research chair, CROSH is aiming to become a centre of expertise in the field of occupational health and safety. Research will focus on improving workplace quality and employee health and will support seven new jobs, including the research chair and three research assistants.
"We thank the NOHFC board members for their support of this project, which will help Laurentian University build a strong foundation of occupational health and safety research and further increase our research intensity, education and training," Laurentian’s president, Dominic Giroux, said in a news release.
CROSH anticipates having the research chair in place by January 2014.
