Robert Deluce, founder, president and CEO of Porter Airlines, will be bestowed with an honorary doctorate at Laurentian University’s convocation ceremony on June 6.
The Chapleau-born, White River-raised Deluce launched Porter Air in 2006 with service between Toronto and Canada. Porter is now the third largest scheduled air service in Canada, with flights to 19 destinations in Canada and the United States.
Northern destinations served by Porter include Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.
Other honourees include mountaineer Meagan McGrath, journalist Steve Paikin and the late Rene Fontaine, a former Ontario MPP and northern development minister.
“Each of the people being honoured this year has scaled the heights in an extraordinary way,” Laurentian president Dominic Giroux said in a news release. “We are proud to recognize them for their unique accomplishments, and we are honoured to have them join us at convocation.”
