Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci was just one of the prominent figures included in Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's Aug. 18 cabinet rejig, which saw seven shifts at the top table.
Bartolucci has shifted from Community Safety and Correctional Services to Municipal Affairs and Housing. His former ministry, which was widely criticized for its handling of the G20 security fence, is now being headed by Jim Bradley.
On the heels of the department's equally lambasted handling of eco-fees, John Gerretson has moved from Environment to Consumer Services. Replacing him in his former role is John Wilkinson.
Two high-profile former mayors have also been rewarded for their wins in recent by-elections. Glen Murray, former mayor of Winnipeg and now MPP for Toronto Centre, has been named Minister of Research and Innovation. Newly minted Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Bob Chiarelli, former mayor of Ottawa, is now Minister of Infrastructure.
Sophia Aggelonitis, MPP for Hamilton Mountain, has been named Minister of Revenue and Minister Responsible for Seniors.
