Ontario has officially lifted some of the red tape for skilled workers looking to be employed within the province following the passage of the Ontario Labour Mobility Act on Dec. 9.

This legislation dictates that workers certified in any other Canadian province or territory can work in Ontario without additional training or testing, including engineers, mechanics and plumbers. In all, the legislation brings 80 regulatory authorities and 300 occupations under the provincial umbrella.

There are six exceptions to full labour mobility due to public safety concerns: dental hygienists, drinking water systems operators, public accountants, lawyers, registered practical nurses, and social workers.
