Ontario, India talk mining tech transfer and investment

The Ontario government has signed an accord with the Republic of India's Ministry of Mines to promote opportunities for mineral development and investment.

The Ontario government has signed an accord with the Republic of India's Ministry of Mines to promote opportunities for mineral development and investment.

A memorandum of understanding signed July 9 outlines how the two jurisdictions will work together on a range of mineral sector activities in geoscience development, mineral exploration, mine development, mines rehabilitation, health and safety, and value-added processing.

Indian Mines Minister B.K. Handique was visiting Ontario and Quebec this month.

In a statement, Northern Development, Mines and Forestry Minister Michael Gravelle said the agreement set a framework to strengthen existing business relationships and develop new ones in the mining sector.

Handique stated India is looking for advanced technology in mining equipment in machinery, information technology, communications and mineral beneficiation and processing.

"We also seek assistance in exploration and mining of high value, deep-seated minerals like gold, nickel and platinum group metals in India."
