Ontario housing starts rise in June

Despite initial projections, the seasonally adjusted rate of housing starts across Canada rose in June 140,700 units, up from 130,300 units in May, according to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation. A 3.

 
Despite initial projections, the seasonally adjusted rate of housing starts across Canada rose in June 140,700 units, up from 130,300 units in May, according to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

A 3.1 per cent gain was seen in Ontario, where the seasonally adjusted rate of starts in urban centres rose to 43,400 in June, up from 42,100 in May.

Much larger gains were seen throughout most of Canada, including a 59.4 per cent increase in the Prairies, and a 25 per cent increase in British Columbia. However, urban starts decreased by 3.9 per cent in Atlantic Canada and 6.3 per cent in Quebec.
