A number of northerners were recognized at the annual Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) awards gala held recently in Alberta. The event honours leaders that are integral to the sustainability of the mining and minerals industry.
Recognized as CIM Distinguished Lecturers were Cheryl Allen, principal ventilation engineer at Vale in Copper Cliff, and Philip Thwaites, manager of the process control at Xstrata Process Support in Falconbridge.
A Bedford Canadian Young Leaders Award went to Adam Tonnos, director of business development and coaching partner at Corporate Symphony International in Sudbury.
Stuart Greaves, manager of mining products at Toromont Cat in Lively, received the District 3 Distinguished Service Award, while Charles Graham, managing director at Camiro’s mining division in Sudbury, received the Underground Mining Society Award.
A Members Award went to Robert Lipic, president and CEO at Mining Technologies Inc. in Lively, and a Distinguished Service Medal went to Robert Onucki, senior global account director, mining, at Sandvick Mining and Construction in Lively.
A CIM Fellowship went to Edward Patton, president at Emptech North Inc. in Sudbury.
Receiving Fifty-Year Club recognition were Largo Albert of Lively, Victor B. Cook of Thunder Bay, William Hendry of Thunder Bay, L.H. Rajala of Falconbridge, and J.S. Redpath of North Bay.
