Northern Ontario highway contracts awarded

Pioneer Construction of Sudbury has been awarded a $3.2-million contract to rehabilitate an eight-kilometre section of Highway 11/17, east of Thunder Bay, near Highway 587. The work involves resurfacing, new drainage and grading.

The work involves resurfacing, new drainage and grading. It will be completed by October and will create 20 jobs, according to a June 9 news release from the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry news release.

Fowler Construction of Bracebridge was awarded a $3.4-million contract to pave, grade and improve drainage on Highway 522, west of Trout Creek.

Work began last year on the 20-kilometre stretch between Loring and Highway 11.

The project will be completed this year and will employ 25.
