The North Bay Newcomer Network was among 13 individuals and organizations recognized for promoting diversity and helping immigrants settle and integrate into society.

The Newcomer Champion Awards were held June 25 at the Westin Prince Hotel in Toronto.

The city's organization is dedicated to attracting and retaining newcomers to North Bay by building a network to help them settle through work, education and entrepreneurship. The network has addressed gaps in newcomer services and worked with employers to address their labour market needs by hiring immigrants.

North Bay and Sudbury are now partnering in a business immigration attraction program that involves a web-based matchmaking tool. The pilot program will provide a means for business to access direct leads to qualified newcomers living in the Greater Toronto Area.

"People making contact through this business matchmaking tool will quickly discover that North Bay is a caring community of energetic, high-spirited people," said Vic Fedeli, mayor of North Bay.
