North Bay's Nipissing University-Canadore College has won a design award for its new library.

The Academic Learning Library won Best of Category for academic libraries of more than 30,000 square feet in the 2012 Library Interior Design Competition in Toronto in May.

The biennial awards are run by the International Interior Design Association and the Library Leadership and Management Association, a division of the American Library Association.

“We are very pleased to see our library, and the architect's creative work, be recognized with this award,” said Vicky Paine-Mantha, Nipissing president and vice-chancellor, in a June 20 news release. “Our students and our community members benefit greatly by having such a beautiful and well-designed building to inspire them while working and studying.”

Canadore College president George Burton said the library is a “tremendous resource” that's used extensively by students and the community.

“This award is a testament to the world-class learning environment created by the library.”
