Sudbury's Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT) has appointed Don Duval as chief executive officer. Duval replaces long-time NORCAT CEO Daryl Lake, who retired at the end of March.
Duval formerly worked as an advisor at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, where he was responsible for client services and corporate strategy. As part of his broader provincial role, Duval was also the head of the Toronto Regional Innovation Centre, the largest member in the Ontario Network of Excellence (ONE).
“The NORCAT board of directors is looking forward to working with Don with his unique experience and enthusiasm,” board chair Dan Kochanowski said in a news release. “Don is a dynamic leader who has demonstrated tremendous success. His leadership will be an asset to NORCAT."
Kochanowski commended Lake for 17 years of “tremendous leadership.”
Duval serves as an adjunct professor in the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Engineering and is an executive board member for the Queen’s Players Toronto Theatre Company, Nepali Children’s Education Program and JUMP Math.
He is also the Toronto chair for the Manning Innovation Awards, sits on the advisory boards for the Canadian Innovation Exchange and Spin Master Innovation Fund and is a past recipient of the Governor General of Canada’s Canadian NCE Young Innovators Award. He holds a bachelor of science honours degree in chemistry from Queen's University and a master's of science in civil engineering from the University of Toronto.

Don Duval will be acting CEO effective July 9.
