A new award has been created to recognize the achievements of young forest professionals in Canada.

The Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry, created by the Canadian Institute of Forestry, is designed to “encourage involvement in and dedication to the principles of sustainable forest management, sound science-based land stewardship, and public outreach focusing on the wise use and conservation of forests and the ecosystems that they encompass.”

Eligible candidates must be a student or recent graduate of a Canadian forestry, natural resources or environmental science university or college program. They additionally must have made outstanding contributions to their school and program and to forest professionalism in general within their community, and be a member in good standing of the institute.

The first award will be presented this September at the institute’s annual conference in Quebec City.

Nominations are open now.
