The City of Thunder Bay plans to be shovel-ready with its proposed Event Centre for the next round of federal P3 infrastructure funding.

The City of Thunder Bay plans to be shovel-ready with its proposed Event Centre for the next round of federal P3 infrastructure funding.

The municipality's consulting team has started its site tours to study the merits and deficiencies of a short-list of potential locations.

The city wants to build a modern facility that can house major sporting events, concerts, trade shows and conventions.

Sites under consideration are the north-end waterfront, Innova Business Park in the inner city and a greenfield location at Thunder Bay Airport.

In a Jan. 6 release, the city said this second phase feasibility study will be sent to council in May. The report will outline the facility's economic impact, the traffic and parking issues surrounding each location, and come up with a project price tag.

The public will have a chance to have their say at a Feb. 29 open house at the Italian Cultural Centre on Algoma Street.
