The mining supply and service sector has received the initial funding to conduct a study of the industry in Northern Ontario.

So far, a committee made up of industry and government officials has received $120,000 to put towards the study, which is intended to estimate the size of the mining support industry in the North. Currently, a consultant is being chosen to begin the process of interviewing companies this fall.

The money is needed to finally prove to the government the value of this sector to attract both programming dollars and other mining-related companies to locate in Northern Ontario, said Dick DeStefano, director of the Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Service Association.
