The Ontario government said its focus on job creation and economic growth “is working” with 121,000 new jobs created in 2011.
Finance minister Dwight Duncan said, “Ontario is one of the most competitive places for businesses to invest,” in backing up the McGuinty government's claim that Ontario accounted for more than 45 per cent of all jobs created in Canada last year.
Since May 2009, Ontario has created almost 300,000 jobs.
In its Jan. 7 release, the government did not identify what commercial, industrial or institutional sectors are experiencing the most growth.
Economic Development and Innovation Minister Brad Duguid attributed the job growth to “so many innovative, entrepreneurial companies that keep our economy driving forward,” and the province's investments in workforce training, private sector partnerships and creation of “a streamlined, cost-effective business climate that fosters growth.”
