Matichuk outlines priorities for Sudbury

Priorities for the current term of Sudbury’s council include industrial lands, development opportunities such as Cliffs Natural Resources’ ferrochrome facility and minimizing red tape for businesses.

Priorities for the current term of Sudbury’s council include industrial lands, development opportunities such as Cliffs Natural Resources’ ferrochrome facility and minimizing red tape for businesses.

The priorities are grouped under four categories: infrastructure, growth and jobs, image building, and tourism and healthy communities. They were outlined in a statement released by Mayor Marianne Matichuk as council reaches the halfway point of its term.

“We have accomplished a lot together, but as these priorities make clear, we still have a lot to do,” she said in a news release. “This plan is about optimism and confidence in the future of our city—two things I know we all share.”

A focus on infrastructure includes Maley Drive, industrial lands, the ranking of roads for investment, and a master plan for water and wastewater.

The growth and jobs category includes development opportunities, minimizing red tape and promoting trades.

Council additionally addressed increasing multi-use space and a convention centre, along with additional image-, tourism- and healthy community-related initiatives.

Mayor Matichuk is scheduled to give her state of the city address on June 21 during an event sponsored by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.
