The Timmins-area Redstone nickel mine, which Liberty Mines Inc. put on care and maintenance in October 2008, is being scheduled to begin producing once more by August 24, 2009.
Mineralization at Redstone was previously mined through shrinkage stoping, reaching a production rate of 208-tonnes per day in 2008. Other mining methods are being investigated by Liberty Mines management to determine ways to safely increase the production rate, while lowering production costs.
The short-term goal for the mine is to provide sufficient mineralization for start-up of the Redstone nickel concentrator by Sept. 15, 2009.
The workforce at the mine will work in conjunction with Liberty's McWatters mine, so that manpower needs will be optimized across the two sites.
