Laurentian U gets research funds from province

Researchers at Laurentian University in Sudbury have received provincial funding totalling $199,504 to continue their work. The funding will be used to purchase state-of-the-art tools and invest in new facilities for four research projects.

The funding will be used to purchase state-of-the-art tools and invest in new facilities for four research projects.

Turgut Yalcin will receive $60,182 to purchase a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for mineral processing applications, and Dean Millar will receive $42,903 towards CryoVent technology for his work in low or zero cryogenic ventilation for mines.

James Watterson will receive $55,359 towards his research in genetics, and John Gunn will receive $41,060 to complete the growth chamber facility at the Vale Living With Lakes Centre to support restoration ecology and climate change research.

“We’re proud of the exceptional work happening in Sudbury,” Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said in a news release. “It is exciting that the discoveries made by researchers right here in our community have the potential to improve the lives of people around the world.”
