A new access ramp being dug from Lake Shore Gold's flagship Timmins Mine, 18 kilometres west of the city, has reached its Thunder Creek property, helping to set the stage for eventual production.
In July, work along the ramp will focus on diamond drilling, drifting to support future drilling, and establishing infrastructure.
Development along the mineralization will begin in August to allow for initial processing of the mineralization later in the year, in anticipation of producing 10,000 ounces of gold from the property through 2010.
“The initial results from underground drilling have also easily met our expectations based on past drilling and support our belief that Thunder Creek is destined to be a very substantial and successful mining project,” said Tony Makuch, president and CEO of Lake Shore Gold, in a release.
