Labour president says resuming production would be 'dangerous'

Vale Inco's plans to resume production in Sudbury is “dangerous,” according to a release issued Sept. 4 by the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL).

"Vale Inco's reckless and unprecedented plan to run dangerous mining and smelting operations using unqualified and inexperienced replacement workers during the current strike is just the latest in a series of moves the company has made, which demand a re-thinking of the conditions that are put on the foreign purchase of Canadian businesses " said OFL president Wayne Samuelson.

The federation is not the first group to speak out against Vale Inco for resuming partial production. The New Democratic Party, striking workers and United Steelworkers Local 6500 have all voiced concerns.

The OFL release stated workers deserve better and praised striking workers for standing up to the company.
