There is $60 million in provincial infrastructure money up for grabs over the next three years for small towns in Northern Ontario.

The McGuinty government announced a new Municipal Infrastructure Strategy on Aug. 16 for both projects and planning.

The small communities eligible must demonstrate how their projects fit within a comprehensive asset management plan.

Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP and natural resources minister Michael Gravelle said communities in his riding such as Armstrong, Dorion, Greenstone, Manitouwadge, Marathon, Red Rock, Rossport, Schrieber, Shuniah and Terrace Bay are all eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is Oct. 22.

In a release, Gravelle said the government has a great track record for making investments in public infrastructure.

“Continued investment and renewal of our public infrastructure; our roads, our schools, not only leverages significant economic benefits, but very much sets the stage for strong vibrant communities,” said Gravelle.
