J.D. Aero observed the official opening of its new $3.3-million hangar at the Sault Ste. Marie airport March 2.

The 22,320-square-foot hangar, along with a 39,600-square-foot apron, was completed in December, and funding for the project included $1 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp.

“The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation continues to enhance services being offered at the airport,” said Jerry Dolcetti, board chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation.

J.D. Aero provides aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (AMRO) services for companies like Porter Airlines and Air Canada Jazz.

Dolcetti said the addition doubles the square footage of the hangar to more than 40,000 square feet, giving J.D. Aero a competitive edge in the global AMRO market.
