Influential Women winners announced

The northwest and northeast winners of the Northern Ontario Influential Women Awards were announced in Thunder Bay, May 31, at the Victoria Inn and in Timmins, June 6, at the Days Inn. For northwest, Dr.

Northeast winners: Carly Verville, Vicky Wydra, Irene Smit and Christine Fortin

The northwest and northeast winners of the Northern Ontario Influential Women Awards were announced in Thunder Bay, May 31, at the Victoria Inn and in Timmins, June 6, at the Days Inn.

For northwest, Dr. Susan Griffis, CEO of the Northern Diabetics Health Network, won in the executive category.

Barb Courte, president of Northstar Drilling and Cobra Diamond Drilling, was recognized in the entrepreneur category.

Genevieve Knauff, founder of GCK Consulting, took home this year's young entrepreneur award.

For northeast, Christine Fortin, Executive Vice President of Patrick4Life, won in the executive category.

Irene Smit, Owner of Bay Real Estate Inc. Brokerage, was recognized in the entrepreneur category.

Vicky Wydra, Owner of New Orlean's Pizza, took home this year's young entrepreneur award.

Carly Verville, Grade 12 student at Ecole Secondaire Catholique Therieault, won the Aspiring Achiever Essay Scholarship.

“We are so proud to be recognizing another seven exceptional women in the North,” said Northern Ontario Business publisher Patricia Mills. “Each year we receive more and more nominations. We are looking forward to receiving your submissions for 2013.”
