TD Bank Group has provided $250,000 to Laurentian University to go towards the school's science communication program, which trains students in popularizing and communicating the work of researchers and scientists.

The contribution was made as part of the school's The Next 50 fundraising campaign and will go towards scholarships for students in the science communication program.

“To help all Canadians better understand the science that explains our world, and the impact of our social and environmental actions in it, is truly a worthy endeavour,” said Frank McKenna, deputy chair of TD Bank Group and former New Brunswick premier, in a news release. “These graduates can play a crucial role in affecting positive change in our country, and around the world, and we are proud to be able to support their efforts.”

Laurentian's course of study, the only one of its kind in North America, comprises theory and practical study during a 10-month graduate diploma program.

Graduates of the program are employed in government and non-governmental organizations, industry, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, SNOlab, museums and science centres, exhibit design companies, and in medical writing.
