Laurentian University is introducing two well-known Sudbury figures, Fred Stanford and Conway Fraser, as its first executives-in-residence.
Stanford will work with faculty, university administrators, industry and government partners to make Laurentian a global leader in mining. This includes providing strategic advice for the development of undergraduate and graduate programs to meet the needs of the mining industry.
Until earlier this year, Stanford served as Vale Inco's president of Ontario operations, a role he accepted in January 2007 after a 28-year career in the mining industry.
Fraser, a Gemini Award-winning journalist and former producer at CBC Northeastern Ontario Radio, will work to increase Laurentian's recognition in the national media. He will also help with outreach throughout northeastern Ontario and in Simcoe-Muskoka.
