Fred Stanford, a former Vale Inco Ontario operations boss, is now the president and CEO of Vancouver mid-tier gold miner, Gleichen Resources.
He replaces Michael Murphy who will remain as a director.
Gleichen's main project is its advanced stage Morelos gold project in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The company recently spent $150 million (US) for a 78.8 per cent stake in the project from Teck Resources.
"Gleichen is well funded to carry out the necessary work to bring the Morelos project to the feasibility stage and is in the process of assembling excellent management and technicals teams to carry out this work," said Stanford in a statement.
Stanford left Vale Inco last June after 28 years and was replaced by John Pollesel.
He is joined on the company's board of directors by another miner with Sudbury connections, FNX Mining founder Terry MacGibbon.
