Tim Hudak, who once served as the Minister of Northern Development and Mines under the Mike Harris government, claimed the leadership position of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario during the weekend of June 27.
As a member of provincial parliament since 1995, Hudak also served in a variety of other Harris cabinet roles, including the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Recreation, as well as Minister of Consumer and Business Services.
Hudak was first elected as part of Harris' so-called Common Sense Revolution, a time highlighted by deep cuts to education and health, leading to regular clashes with unions.
His successful leadership campaign was openly endorsed by Harris, his former party leader and mentor, as well as half the current provincial PC caucus.
