Ontario's First Nations have a new chief now that The Union of Ontario Indians has elected Sudbury area’s Patrick Madahbee to replace John Beaucage.

Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee was elected June 9 at a Grand Council gathering in Aamjiwnaang First Nation, near Sarnia.

Madabee says he's going to have a rights-based agenda during his term in office.

A total of 42 chiefs from as many communities were eligible to vote at the council in a traditional stand-up election, where supporters line up behind the candidates they want to vote for.
