FedNor minister Tony Clement left behind $2.2 million in Cochrane during a whirlwind airdrop of cash across northeastern Ontario.
The North Claybelt Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) took home the bulk of the money with $1 million to support area business development through loans, loan guarantees and equity financing.
North Claybelt pocketed an additional $256,000 to “coordinate regional activities and training opportunities” for the Northeast Development Network for one year.
With another $27,500 investment, the CFDC will hire a youth intern who has a slew of responsibilities including preparing promotional products, planning an investment readiness workshop and assisting with the development of the regional agri-food industry.
The Francophone Business Development Initiative scooped up $778,682 to offer marketing, export and business planning services for small and medium-sized francophone businesses.
Clement also announced that $125,000 is earmarked for a FedNor initiative to assist small and medium-sized businesses with online human resources business tools.
The minister then took off for Cochrane where another $27,500 was deposited for the Town of Cochrane to hire a youth intern to create promotional material to help that municipality's budding film industry. The town plans to develop a database of potential shooting locations to attract the film industry to the area.
