After years of waiting and an ongoing war of words between provincial MPP Rick Bartolucci and Industry Minister Tony Clement, the federal government has bestowed $4.3 million to Sudbury's Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation.
The funding, provided through Industry Canada's Community Adjustment Fund, will be used to install, test and measure the effectiveness of new ventilation on demand technologies to lower mining costs and increase productivity.
Clement also announced $1.9 million for Sudbury's St. Joseph's Health Centre to build a new 90,000-square-foot, 128-bed bilingual long-term care facility in nearby Chelmsford.
The Sudbury Airport Development Corporation also received $600,000 to develop a new hangar to allow for future business growth.
Clement also announced $930,000 in funding for Sudbury-area projects through FedNor, including $114,320 to Symbioticware Incorporated for the development and marketing of software to be used in remote monitoring stations.
