Export Development Canada (EDC) has become the first export credit agency to receive an insurance financial strength (IFS) rating of Aaa from Moody's Investors Service, the highest such rating available.

This also makes EDC the only reinsurer in the world to currently hold such a rating, which was assigned August 17.

This top rating will allow EDC to better assist Canadian exporters to bridge gaps in private sector insurance and capital markets, as international financial institutions will more easily be able to assess risk in transactions that involve EDC's insurance or reinsurance.

The IFS ratings reflect Moody's opinion of an insurance company's ability to punctually pay senior policyholder claims and obligations.

The EDC provides knowledge and partnerships for more than 8,300 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide every year.
