Essar Steel Algoma has made a $35,000 donation to the Sault Ste. Marie Library to help furnish, equip and stock a new branch. The facility’s multi-purpose room will be named the Essar Community Room in recognition of the company’s contribution.
Construction of the $1.6-million Korah branch of the library was funded by the city and the province, and the library has been undergoing a fundraising campaign to help fill it. Essar’s contribution marks the largest single donation to the campaign, bringing the total to nearly $93,000.
The donation comes through Essar Steel Algoma’s $5-million Community Investment
Fund, which provides corporate contributions to community charities, foundations and non-profit initiatives.
“Through the fund, we support initiatives that provide a sustainable benefit by adding measurable value to community life,” CEO Jim Hrusovsky said in a news release. “The new Korah branch embodies Essar’s strong belief in the pursuit of knowledge; it facilitates lifelong learning for our employees and their families and delivers meaningful community programming with modern amenities.”
