Endowment funds college award

Canadore College's civil engineering technician students will be able to apply for an annual financial award.

Canadore College's civil engineering technician students will be able to apply for an annual financial award.

The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) announced the creation of a $40,000 endowment to fund the award. The endowment is made possible through a donation from OACETT’s Carole and George Fletcher Foundation, with matching gifts from Canadore College Alumni and the Ontario Trust for Student Support program.

“Over the next 10 years, the demand for engineering graduates is going to exceed the number of skilled workers in this field,” said Shawn Chorney, vice-president of enrolment management, student services and recruiting.

The endowment fund will provide a $1,000 award each year in perpetuity to a Canadore student studying in an OACETT recognized engineering or applied science program. Students enrolled in their first, second or third year will be able to apply for this financial support.
