The City of Dryden is naming a new pedestrian suspension bridge spanning the Wabigoon River after renowned local businessman Roy Wilson.
Wilson is the president and owner of the printing and publishing firm of Alex Wilson Coldstream Ltd. which produces the Dryden Observer newspaper.
In an Aug. 25 City of Dryden news release, it states Wilson has been the driving force behind Wilson's Business Solutions, a local office supply company with outlets in Fort Frances, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Thunder Bay and Thompson, Man.
Wilson is well-known for his charitable endeavors with community building projects such as upgrades to the hospital and construction of Patricia Gardens. Recently he contributed more than $600,000 to various downtown and community revitalization projects. Wilson contributed money toward the cost of the new bridge
“The City of Dryden is so fortunate to have successful entrepreneurs like Roy Wilson who give back so generously to the community they call home,” said Mayor Anne Krassilowsky.
Community revitalization chairwoman Mardi Plomp called Wilson a “fitting tribute to a man with vision and passion.”
The bridge and related trail improvement are located near the intersection of Highway 17 and King Street.
