Representatives from Sudbury will travel to Toronto next week to attend the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention, being held March 4-7.

The annual convention showcases over 1,000 exhibitors and over 27,000 guests from 120 countries focused on the evolution of the mineral and mining industry across the world.

"Our community’s mining industry is constantly evolving with new innovations, and we are continually moving forward with market demands as well as fostering our local businesses to compete on the global stage," Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk said in a news release. "Important international conferences and events such as PDAC promote our message; the City of Greater Sudbury is a world leader in mining and the mining supply and services sector."

The convention provides city representatives with an opportunity to connect with industry leaders in person to discuss the community and the opportunities with local businesses. Delegates from global mining companies will be visiting the city before and after the trade show as a result of past connections made at the convention.

"Having an international mining convention this close to home gives us the opportunity to host global organizations in our city who wouldn't normally be able to make the trip here," said Ian Wood, Sudbury's director of economic development, in the release. "Having had the opportunity to speak to company executives previously, and maintaining a working relationship with them throughout the years, is a good example of how these conventions can foster long-term connections which would otherwise be impossible."
