With growing demand for space, Collège Boréal has begun construction of a new $6-million student residence at its main campus in Sudbury.

The 23,164-square-foot facility will house 70 students across 35 units, and each will feature two bedrooms, a kitchenette, and bathroom. It will share a common room with the existing INCO Residence.

Some of the construction elements are specific to the region. Timbers from Northern Ontario forests will be used to support the wing shared between the two residence, among others.

The project was designed by ANO Architects, while the current phase of work is being undertaken by Tribury Construction. The facility is expected to officially open in September 2010.
