Collège Boréal in Sudbury has signed four partnership agreements with Costa Rica's major post-secondary education institutions to collaborate in the areas of the environment, technology, and health and trades.

Memorandums of understanding have been signed to “foster the sharing of knowledge, human resources, applied research and best practices,” and the agreements have French, English and Spanish language learning components, according to a press release.

The schools include the National Learning Institute of Costa Rica, Earth University, the National Technical University and the University College of Cartago.

“These new collaborations with our colleagues in Costa Rica are a first for a francophone college in Ontario, Boréal president Denis Hubert-Dutrisac said in the release. “Once again, future graduates of Collège Boréal will have an added competitive edge in order to launch brilliant careers.”

Field of focus for the agreements include fish farming and aquaculture, wood product manufacturing and industrial electronics, as well as massage therapy, tourism and hotel management and culinary arts.

“In the current context of knowledge globalization, Canada proves to be a prominent figure in the postsecondary education sector,” said Cameron Mackay, the Canadian ambassador to Costa Rica, in the release. “The areas of collaboration defined in this first agreement demonstrate the importance, in particular, of the environment and cultural respect in each of our countries.”
