A pair of northern colleges is providing increased financial incentives to encourage students to attend their institutions.

Sault College has increased its entrance award, which is offered to new and returning students based on financial need, from $500 to $750. The award has been offered since 2004, and has increased by increments from $400.

“Now is the time to apply to Sault College and confirm your offer with us,” states Dr. Ron Common, President Sault College. “With increasing costs of attending post-secondary schools, the strength of the financial aid program is critical to ensuring that all students continue to get access to these training opportunities. Sault College is standing by to help students succeed in their studies.”

Since its inception, every student to apply for the award has received it. In 2011, 514 students received the award.

At Cambrian College in Sudbury, meanwhile, students who confirm their acceptance into their program of choice are eligible to receive a 15 per cent tuition rebate upon graduation.

It’s a bonus designed to reward those who complete their studies on time and on budget,” college president Sylvia Barnard said in a news release. “Cambrian already offers excellent value in post-secondary education, and we’re adding to that by putting between $1,200 and $3,500 back in the pockets of eligible graduates as they embark on their new careers.”

Barnard added that, the financial incentives, combined with a 94 per cent employment rate, make Cambrian an attractive option for students seeking post-secondary education.
