Once the hub of CN Rail activity in Northern Ontario, the town of Capreol was remembered on the August Civic Holiday weekend for its place in Canadian railway folklore.

The former CN divisional point was inducted into the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame, Aug. 2. Capreol resident Tony Marquis, now CN's operations manager for its Champlain Division in eastern Canada made the announcement on behalf of the hall of fame.

Capreol is now a bedroom community that was absorbed into the City of Greater Sudbury in 2001. The former CN maintenance shops are now operated by National Railway Equipment, an Illinois-based rebuilder of locomotives.

The community's railway heritage is preserved in Prescott Park where a steam locomotive and caboose are located.
