The value of building permits issued by the City of Sault Ste. Marie in September dropped by more than half of the same month in 2008.
The city recorded $6.6 million last month compared to $14.8 million during September 2008.
The value of permits for 2009 up until the end of September amounts to $55.2 million, down from $94.3 million in 2008.
Last month, permits were issued for seven homes worth $1.4 million, compared to $2.6 million issued during September 2008 for 16 permits.
Commercial construction values last month were $2.4 million, up from $1.04 million in September last year. No permits were issued for industrial construction last month and only one permit for institutional work worth $110,000.
