Building permits in Sault taper off in September and for 2009

The value of building permits issued by the City of Sault Ste. Marie in September dropped by more than half of the same month in 2008. The city recorded $6.6 million last month compared to $14.8 million during September 2008.

The city recorded $6.6 million last month compared to $14.8 million during September 2008.

The value of permits for 2009 up until the end of September amounts to $55.2 million, down from $94.3 million in 2008.

Last month, permits were issued for seven homes worth $1.4 million, compared to $2.6 million issued during September 2008 for 16 permits.

Commercial construction values last month were $2.4 million, up from $1.04 million in September last year. No permits were issued for industrial construction last month and only one permit for institutional work worth $110,000.
