Bestech is supporting Sudbury students by hosting 13 co-op placement students and giving out $1,400 in graduation bursaries.
Co-op placements were awarded to students from Laurentian University, the University of Guelph, Michigan State University, Cambrian College, Collège Boréal and Lockerby Composite School.
A $1,000 bursary and four-month placement was awarded to Boréal student Jessica Verrier, the winner of a class challenge to create a video promoting the Bestech mining product RopeInspector.
Two bursaries of $200 were also awarded to a pair of students from École secondaire Hanmer, the alma mater of Bestech’s two CEOs, Marc Boudreau and Denis Pitre. The bursary recipients are pursuing post-secondary studies in a field related to one of Bestech’s specialties.
Boudreau said Bestech is eager to assist students with their post-secondary education to help decrease the shortage of skilled workers.
“We understand the importance of grooming our future leaders in the community and, as such, we want to offer graduates a hands-on work environment in order to develop technical, administrative and management skills,” Boudreau said in a news release. “We also want to facilitate further educational and training opportunities for local students so that they can refine their skills and broaden their knowledge in order to be ready for the workplace.”
