Baird appoints new head of Thunder Bay port

Lorne G. Crawford of Dryden was appointed by Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, to the Thunder Bay Port Authority board of directors for a two-year term on June 22.


Lorne G. Crawford of Dryden was appointed by Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, to the Thunder Bay Port Authority board of directors for a two-year term on June 22.

Crawford holds a bachelor's degree in forest engineering from the University of New Brunswick. He has had a long career in the forestry industry, beginning with Northwood Pulp and Paper in Prince George, B.C., where he worked as a logging engineer and heavy equipment operator. He later became a manager of woodlands operations with Avenor Inc. in Thunder Bay and Dryden. Since 1998, he has been owner and president of Northwest Strategies Inc., a forestry consulting company.

"I am very pleased that Mr. Crawford has agreed to serve on the board of directors of the Thunder Bay Port Authority," said Baird. "He brings extensive business experience to the port authority and his previous experience with the board will be a particular asset going forward."
